OASL Fall Retreat: Communication & Leadership
Purpose and Outcomes
Communication is at the heart of leadership. The way we speak, listen, respond, and connect with others can build trust, strengthen relationships, resolve conflict, and bring people together, even when we see things differently.
This year’s Fall Retreat will challenge students to become more intentional communicators and more thoughtful leaders. Through hands-on activities, small-group conversations, and dynamic sessions, students will explore how communication can help them build stronger relationships, create inclusive communities, navigate differences, and lead with purpose.
Students will learn how to:
Listen to understand and ask questions that help others feel heard.
Communicate with intention by using their words, tone, body language, and presence effectively.
Build connections with people who have different experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds.
Recognize personal biases and consider how they can affect the way we communicate and interact with others.
Navigate disagreement and conflict with civility, empathy, and respect.
Manage emotions and respond thoughtfully in challenging situations.
Give and receive meaningful feedback while working with others.
Use communication and problem-solving skills to balance individual and group needs.
Create inclusive spaces where all people are treated with dignity and respect.
Use their voice to lead, collaborate, and work toward common goals.
Students will leave the retreat with practical communication strategies they can take back to their schools, organizations, teams, and communities..
By the end of the weekend, students won’t just be better problem solvers—they’ll be ready to lead change, inspire action, and shape the future in their schools and beyond.

Students in grades 6-12 from all organizations, teams, and groups are welcome!
In order to provide a more in-depth opportunity for discussion and group development, OASL created a three year rotation of retreat programs for both Middle Level and Senior High students. These overnight retreats offer students opportunities to make new friends, connect with old friends, work in a small group setting and develop their teamwork, goal setting, communication, creativity and overall leadership skills in a retreat setting.

Non-Member Cost: $125
Scholarships Available!
At OASL we will never turn down a student who wants to build their leadership skills and get involved. You belong!
Limited $35.00 scholarships for students with financial need may be available. Any student interested in being considered for a scholarship MUST complete the Scholarship Request Application by Friday, October 16th. Applicants will be notified of their status by Tuesday, October 20st.
Registration and scholarship application should be submitted within the same day to be considered for the scholarship.
Registration Deadline:
October 23rd at midnight. We will not be able to accept registrations after this date/time as we must provide final counts to our camp facility.
$50.00 deposit required for all registrants. Refunds issued only if notice of cancellation is received by October 23.
